Lay ministers occupy many roles in ecclesial ministry and should be satisfactorily prepared to effectively fulfill those functions to which they have been entrusted. In most instances, the formation of lay ministers emulates similar training to that which is required for catechists but it may also include aspects that are specialized or distinct to particular ministerial needs or pastoral realities. Lay ministers are encouraged to make full use of learning opportunities made available to catechists and others, which includes: local and diocesan sponsored formation events; accreditation evaluation of relevant formation; resourcing support; and the University of Dayton Partnership.
